Summer Time Tunes
by soulfringe on Jun.15, 2009, under Uncategorized
It’s the middle of June, fireworks stands are setting up and it is becoming sweltering hot (mid to high 90’s here. Should be in the 100’s soon enough). So as the sweat drips down from my face and the ice in my glass melts rapidly, it’s time to tune into some summer time beats that help make the heat seem fun. Kind of funny how music can have that kind of effect.
For me right now i am loving the new 311 single “Hey You” and blasting some “Shanghai Honey” from Orange Range. Also,Orange Range has a new single, “Hitomi no Saki ni”, scheduled to be released next month. Looking forward to adding that to my summer time beats.
Of course though, just about anything from Orange Range and 311 seems to really fit with summer
So what do you got blasting next to you at the pool/beach, by the BBQ or where ever and whatever your doing to “enjoy” the heat ?

I am such an R-tard for not making a post about this a few days ago like I should have. If you follow my blog, you know one of the seiyus I have been fanboying over is Nana Mizuki. Well Nana-chan just did something no other seiyu before her did. She hit #1 on the Oricon weekly album charts with her new album Ultimate Diamond (seems like a fitting name). Just goes to show she is as talented as she is pretty ! /fanboy drool.
Here is a little eye (and ear) candy
and a little something from the new album
as usual my news comes from my usual news source
boring update
by soulfringe on Jun.12, 2009, under Uncategorized
Haven’t posted anything in a while and thought I should post something since I haven’t died yet.
Just been catching up on some animes I was falling behind on. This is a common problem for me, I start like a dozen animes at a time, but only end up keeping up with just a couple. Then I go and catch up on everything and something else falls behind. Bah.
Just caught up with One Piece and Guin Saga. One Piece I seem to just always watch in bursts rather than week by week. This is probably since I follow the manga weekly, and that takes away from the anticipation of seeing what happens in the next episode (since I already know what’s going to happen).
Now for Guin Saga, it just didn’t really rope me in the first few eps, so I drifted away. However after starting my catch up marathon, I am hooked. Very good series.
Now it’s time for me to go catch up on Tears to Tiara and maybe that 07-Ghost one. maybe. I should also catch up on that cellphone anime.
In other newes, K-on is just about over and that makes me a sad panda. I also still haven’t found a job. Which makes me a sadder panda and even broker. (you guys should click on my ads so I can buy a candy bar or something to cheer me up!! =p )
Almost working

Did some follow ups on apps i turned in. One of the places, Pizza Guys, a high volume take out and delivery only pizza place in town, liked my app/resume. They are already full on staff, but the manager liked my experience and told me to keep coming in every other week to check on an opening.
Not my ideal dream job, but it’s money. If I want to pay off all the debt I have accumulated this past year and keep going to school, I am going to need this money. So that’s whats going on my end.
How is the recession effecting you ?
(ps. I seriously suck at finding cool anime images for relating posts. Someone give me some really good links that aren’t 4chan or gelbooru.)
Something

No post in a while, so figured I should post something. I seem to have problems thinking up something different for posts so thats part of the problem. I really don’t want this to just be me going “yea this anime is good” or some crap like that, but whatever.
However, some good news. I passed English 1A. YAY!. Don’t know my exact grade, but I believe it to be somewhere in the vicinity of “A”. It is definitely no lower than a B, as I did all my work and never got lower than a B. So yea. yay me. It took me like 8 or 9 years, but I finally have some college credit. (UC accredited)
In WoW news, my horde guild has finally gotten Thorim down in our 25 man, and with great ease despite our previous troubles. Progression is nice, even if it is a little slower than desired.
But in news that matters, loving Souten Kouro. It’s like the man version of Saiunkoku Monogatari, but like, you know, more violence, less shoujo.
Was also treated to some NEW Haruhi. I am sure all you were as well. “Loli-hi” was awesome. ( I am coining that term btw). My head nearly exploded with the clumsy moe overload of Mikuru finding out she lost her “TPDD”
Anyways that was my little something. I am going to go eat some ice cream now. Mint choclate chip ftw.
Great Teacher Otaku
by soulfringe on May.04, 2009, under Uncategorized
In my college English class, we were given the assignment to write a four page essay on a career path we have chosen. Though I am still unsure if I want to make this my future plan, I want to go abroad and teach in Japan. Maybe for a year, maybe a few, maybe for life. Maybe I will just teach here in the states. I haven’t really set it in stone, because I feel it’s just like my teacher said, you can’t know for sure what it is you really want to do until you do it. You can only have some idea of what it is you want to do. But for now I feel like teaching is definitely something I can connect with, and it also seems to be one of the best ways to go about working in Japan. It’s an idea of what I want to do, and I look forward to seeing if that is what my calling is.
Now my essay requires me to research as well as interview someone in the field. I was lucky enough that my teachers brother was once a English teacher in Japan, and had the pleasure of interviewing him. For the most part, a lot of the questions I asked him were more like a confirmation of what I had already learned from my essay, but I was able to pick up some more insight into what is expected of teachers, particularly, patience.
All in all, the more I get into this essay, the more I look forward to graduating. Hopefully with a BA in Linguistics.
And here is a little something I found in regards to the real GTO on youtube.

Not really. But everyone is talking about this damned Swine flu outbreak, and I need to jump on the bandwagon, but only because of some news I saw reported on animenewsnetwork.com. The article posts news that music duo LM.C will be canceling their appearence at A-Kon due to their label freaking out over the swine flu thing. I feel people are freaking out too much about this issue.
Last nights local news were reporting on the X-men origins movie opening, talking about the fear and panic of people going to the movies and such. I guess they were trying to make some kind of deal out of people not wearing masks or something. Guess I should wear one when I go see the movie ?
But enough of that, I got anime updates to report on… tomorrow… maybe. =D
The 2009 Spring Season
by soulfringe on Apr.18, 2009, under Uncategorized
I have been meaning to make some posts and reviews on the new anime season, but laziness is a terrible affliction. There is also the MMO addiction too. New Raid content in WoW + the new City of Heroes/Villains publish where you can create your own missions.
I have watched most everything this new season I think, but there are a couple I still haven’t just made time for. Namely Hatsukoi Limited which I just can’t seem to get into. I’m a bit put off from the character design I suppose. They seem a bit awkward to me, probably because of my past experience with Ichigo 100%. It doesn’t seem natural I guess. But I dunno, whatever. I will force my self to watch sometime.
Anyways, so far, my personal picks of the season are as follows -
Sengoku Basara - “Historical” Samurai anime. This one features Kazuya Nakaias the voice of Date Masmune. A very good fit, as I think he did a awesome job portraying other samurai bad ass Hijikata Toshirou (Gintama) and Rorona Zoro (One Piece). I should also note that his character Date Masmune one ups his Three Sword Using One Piece character, or rather more like three up, by using 6 katana. Overall though, this is a very average anime and not really great at all. I just like seeing historical figures used as characters =D
Slap Up Party - Well, mediocre series I supposed. But this title must be mentioned for its incredibly awesome 8 bit ending.
Queens Blade - Near naked chicks with swords (and half the time, more than near naked!!). This anime is nearly a hentai. I approve. (though anidb users seem to disagree, though I haven’t seen many dannychoo readers complain)
Hayate No Gotoku 2- It’s more Hayate. Do I really need to say more
Tears to Tiara - Seems like a very well produced anime. A bit cliche, but only seen one episode so far. Can’t exactly pass a legitmate judgement yet. However, so far it doesn’t seem like it will be too bad.
Valkyria Chronicles - Me likey.
Cross Game - Baseball anime, and you know I like baseball animes. Except, episode 1 has made this anime an addition to one of my previous blog entries. The one about crying ;_;
And now for the real winner of the season -
K-On - Four Girls make a music club. Moe hijinks ensue.
My Favorite girl is a toss up between Mio and Tsumugi. Mio wins bonus points though because shes the bass player. Yay Bassists! If it was Tsumugi on bass, it wouldn’t even be a contest. lol.
Well I’m gonna cut it “short” here. I will TRY to make a more in depth post later. Untill than I get new bad guys to beat and delicious tacos to eat. Peace !
Ginatama is educational.
by soulfringe on Apr.02, 2009, under Uncategorized
I have always thought Gintama to be a some what “educational” anime. Mostly for the use of historical characters (e.g the shinsengumi), which is a theme used in many animes. However after watching episodes 90-100 in my quest for the week in catching up to the current episodes of Gintama, I have noticed just how much reference is being used in the production of Anime and Manga.
In episode 92, our protagonists’ talk of how quickly animes can catch up to their manga counterpart at the start of the episode and how animators will try to drag it on as best as they can. Also we are shown one of the best examples of one such anime that used this dragon on methood, Drag-on Ball Z. During this speech, they also hit on some other issues as well. I laughed most though when Gin demonstrated one form of dragging something out, the dramatic pause. =D
Then in episode 94, we were greeted with rough sketches of the anime. Shinpachi gives us the 411 and gives a break down on this animation process.
Finally episode 100 is where I came to my conclusion. In this episode Gin-san went to go help in the editing of the terrible Jump series, Gintaman. During this experience, Gin teaches us the value of having characters who have such unique characteristics, they can be recognized by just their silhouette. We are also introduced to the “Jump-system”.
The Jump system is referred to the cycle in which todays enemy, becomes tomorrows ally.
After looking at some popular series, this is entirely true !!! One Piece examples, Nico Robin, who became a crew member, or Bon-chan. Bleach examples, the shinigami. Naruto examples, the sand ninjas. Hunter x Hunter, Hisaka, if that can count…
Anyways, now my interest in all this has been piqued, time to hit up the google and learn some more.
